The most important thing to know about the registry is that you probably shouldn’t just mess around and delete or change things for no reason. Therefore, many users would not do anything about registry or even know about registry, just in case.
However, learning how to use Microsoft Free Registry Editor to manage your Windows registry is of great importance for your computer lifespan. The more organized your registry is, the longer your computer stay health and run.
In this article, some tips will be given for you to use the Microsoft Free Registry Editor.
1. Back up the Registry
There is no need to stress the significance of restoring the registry. Since we cannot undo what we have done to the registry, back up the registry is the best policy.
-> Start menu, type regedit.exe in the search box, and then press Enter.
->In Registry Editor, locate and click the registry key or subkey that you want to back up(also the ones you want to change).
->Click File, choose Export.
->In the Export Registry File dialog box, select the location to which you want to save the backup copy, and then type a name for the backup file in the File name field. Click Save.
2. Open regedit
->Press Win+R, type regedit in the box, and enter OK.
3. Edit Key and Subkey
If we want to create a new subkey named CDA under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software, we need to:
->Open regedit.
->Find where the CDA locates; here is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software.
->Right-Click on folder Software, and choose New>Key.
->type CDA in the box.
4. Edit Value
In the registry, the key value consists of name, type and value. There are three common value data: BINARY value, string value, and Dword value.
Examples speak clear. If we want to set a string value Run under CDA and the value is 1, follow the steps:
->Locate to CDA, and right-click on it.
->Choose String Value, a NEW VALUE#1 pops out. Type Run in the box.
->Double-click on the Run, a dialogue box shows up. Put 1 in the box and press OK.
The modification is the same as the editing process.
5. Delete Key and Value
Click the one you want to remove and press Delete. However, this should be done by the professional registry editor, unless you take the risk of the death of your PC.
